PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reducing method capable of reducing an image without reducing picture quality and a storage medium recording a program for allowing a computer to execute the method. SOLUTION: A calculation target pixel section in an original image which is to be used for calculating the density data of pixels to be calculated in a reduced image is determined in accordance with the reduction rate of the image (step S1). Plural pixels representing mutually related calculation target pixel sections of the original image are selected based on the similarity of density data values of respective pixels in the calculation target pixel section determined in the step S1 and the similarity of distances of respective pixels (step 52). Processing (step S3) for adopting the mean value of density data of respective pixels selected in the step S2 as the density data of pixels to be calculated in the reduced image is repeated (step S4) and the density data of respective pixels in the reduced image are found out to obtain the reduced image of the original image.
