PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To light a lamp stably and reduce radiation noise with a comparatively high frequency by making a current limiting element small. SOLUTION: This device consists of plural capacitors C1 -C6 and switch elements S1 -S30 , and is equipped with means to control voltage change-over so that a discharge lamp is lighted stably by a method wherein each capacitor C1 -C6 is charged by a power supply E, an nearly alternate current wave form is generated by an instant change in numbers of capacitors C1 -C6 connected and applied to a discharge lamp, and a higher voltage or a lower voltage than a characteristics voltage of the discharge lamp is alternately applied to the discharge lamp, while a lamp current increases if the higher voltage is applied, and the lamp current decrease if the lower current is applied. In this case, numbers of the capacitors C1 -C6 or connection timing is controlled so that an inclination of the wave form nearly coincides before and after the voltage changeover. |
