OPTICAL FIBER ASSEMBLY AND ITS MANUFACTURE, AND RECEPTACLE TYPE OPTICAL MODULE USING OPTICAL FIBER ASSEMBLY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the manufacture cost of the optical fiber assembly. SOLUTION: This optical fiber assembly has a ferrule 41 and a laser-diode mounted substrate assembly 42. The ferrule 41 is made of zirconia ceramic and has a substrate fitting plane part 41e, formed by polishing, closely to an end surface 41b. The laser-diode mounted substrate assembly 42 consists of a silicon-made substrate 45 and a laser diode 46 which is fixed on the substrate 45 with AuSn solder. The substrate 45 is mounted and positioned on a plane part 41e and fixed with AuSn solder. An end surface 41c of an optical fiber 43 and the light emitting part of a laser diode 46 face each other with a small error of approximately 1μm. The part 47 between the laser diode 46 and an end surface 41b (end 44a of optical fiber 44) is filled with a refractive index matching agent 47.
