PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To replace a single native computer instruction with a user programmable trap for the kernel of an operating system, and to move control for the sequence of an evaluation computer instruction by the execution of the trap. SOLUTION: A trap handler 502 in a kernel 114 decides whether or not an inserted trapping computer instruction 402T generates trap, and moves control for a user trap handler 406. The user trap handler 406 maps a trap site to a patch 410 of an evaluation computer instruction. When the trapping computer instruction 402T is executed, the trap handler 502 moves control from the kernel 114 to the user trap handler 406. As a result, the processing is moved from the original address of a computer processing to the objective address of the computer processing.
