A bearer bar (4) is clamped releasably by holder (7) parallel to the rafters (1) or opposed battens. The bar has a group of two or more lashing pins (5) arranged at prescribed spacing from the top edges of the adjoining battens. A bearing pin (6) is arranged between two adjoining lashing pins to guard against slippage of un-nailed battens (2), with the interval between the bearing pins and the pin above larger than one batten breadth, and less than the interval to the next bearing pin below. The bar (4) has an additional group of more than two lashing pins in turn arranged at prescribed spacing from the top edge of the adjoining battens so the lashing pins of the first and second groups lie between one another. The length of the bearing and lashing pins normal to the bearer plate should equal or exceed one batten thickness. The bearing and lashing pins are arranged in similar parallel directions normal to the bearer bar (4). The bearer bar length lies between 1.5 and 3 m.
