The invention relates to a catalyst solution for the polymerization of alpha -olefins obtained by: reacting a metallocene compound with an activator compound, which is able to react with the metallocene compound in such a way that a ligand is displaced from the central atom and the resulting cationic complex is stabilized by a non-coordinating anion as ion pair; adding one or several alpha -olefins at a molar ratio of metallocene compound: alpha -olefins of between 1: 1 and 1: 100; and mixing the resulting product with at least 10 volume parts of an aliphatic hydrocarbon.
