A suction strip (8) with suction chamber (11) is biased by suction air to separate the sheet. The suction chamber has several suction openings (12) on its underneath facing the sheet stack. The underneath has a convex curve suction face seen in the sheet transport direction. The suction strip is set across the sheet transport direction. The width of the strip preferably corresponds to the sheet format being processed. The suction openings are spread out across the transport device along the strip. The openings outside of the area of the format width being processed can be switched off.
