The housing (G) of a rotary piston heat engine comprises several angular segments, which differ in functions of heat supply, heat discharge, and thermal insulation. The circulating chambers formed between rotary pistons (D1,D2) and the housing walls successively extend over the functional segments, with heat being supplied to and removed from the working medium. Due to the gear unit, with eccentric gear wheels (Z1,Z2) and the arrangement of the segments, the periodic increase of volume of the chambers during circulation increases to a heat supply segment and volume reduction decreases to a heat discharge segment. Pressure is respectively increased and increased and mechanical work is obtained at the output shaft (W).
