In order to produce hypocholesteremic agents, mixtures of active substances containing (a) phytostenols and/or phytostenol esters and (b) potentiators, selected from the group which is formed by chitosans, phytostenol sulfates and/or (desoxy)-ribonucleic acids are used. Although the potentiators per se have no or only a slight hypocholesteremic effect, they increase the speed at which the phytostenol esters lower the cholesterol content in serum. By encapsulating the agents in gelatin, said agents can even be administered orally in high doses without any problems occurring.
