<p>The present invention is directed to modified gas mixtures for use in arc welding. Preferred embodiments include weld enhancing halogen compounds, preferably sulphur hexafluoride, in proportions of 3.0 % and below. Discussed is the effect of these modified gas mixtures for increasing weld penetration, narrowing arc width, and their role in higher speed welding techniques. Also discussed is the use of these gases in lieu of surface applied fluxes.</p> |
