A band roller for coating surfaces, e.g. car bodies, comprises one or more bands (2) which run over rollers (3), a tensioning roller, a holder (8), a stencil section (20), and coating material. The coating material is located in at least one of the rollers, and is in liquid, solid, powder and/or gaseous form. The coating material also has an associated sepg agent (23) which is part of the coating.The coating material is dosed from one or more cartridges. The latter preferably contain a plastic insert, e.g. made of polypropylene.
