An optical recording medium comprising at least a recording layer (2), a recording auxiliary layer (5), a reflecting layer (3) and a protective layer (4) provided on a transparent substrate (1) in this order. The recording layer and the recording auxiliary layer are mainly made of an organic dye. Recording and/or reproduction can be performed with a laser beam having a wavelength lambda 1 or with a laser beam having a wavelength of lambda 2 shorter than the wavelength lambda 1. The recording layer has a spectroscopic absorbance of 5 to 35 % for the wavelength lambda 1 and 15 % or more for the wavelength lambda 2. The recording auxiliary layer has a peak of the spectroscopic reflectance in the vicinity of the wavelength lambda 2.
