A house or garage door lock comprises a magnetic PVC key and an alarm system for protecting against burglary. The lock casing (1) contains an electromagnet (2) which is controlled by the magnetic PVC key. The electromagnet moves a PVC bolt (6) using a band (4) which runs over rollers (3). The PVC key acts as a switch. An accumulator (5), charged by a solar or photocell, provides power, and the magnetic PVC is key coded.
