Long high temperature superconductor product manufacture

Production of a long superconductor, having one or more cores consisting of a high temperature metal oxide superconductive phase enclosed by normally conductive Ag-containing material, involves subjecting a preform of the enclosed superconductor precursor material, after the final stage and/or at least one of the preceding stages of a multistage deformation operation, to inward diffusion of a hardness increasing alloy component into at least the exterior portion of the normally conductive Ag or Ag alloy material. Preferably, the diffused alloy component is selected from Cd, Hg, In, Sn, Zn, Al, Ga, Mn, Pb, Sb, Au, Pt, Cu, Ge, Pd or their alloys.
