<p>A pivot device 50 for portable computers 60 has a pivot bearing 56 and a pivot member. The pivot bearing is provided at the rear edge of a main body 70 of a portable computer. The pivot member is provided on a display body 62 of the computer. The display body is thus pivotally connected to the main body. In the pivot member, a lower support part 50a is mounted to the lower portion 66a of a display housing 66, while a side support part 140, extending from the lower support part, is mounted to the side portion 66c of the display housing.
