The reflected sound speakers shown in figure 1 have been designed to produce a diffused sound. Each speaker consists of: A woofer (low frequency loudspeaker) 6 that is fixed on the upper side of a cylindrical speaker 1 and emits the sound upwards. A reflector in the form of a cone 4 that is fixed above the woofer with its apex downwards in order to reflect the sound produced by the woofer. This reflector contains on its upper surface, the tweeter (high frequency loudspeaker), the centre of which is on the same vertical axis as the woofer. The sound produced by the tweeter is reflected by the cone-shaped reflector 2 which is fixed above the tweeter with its apex downwards. The sound produced by the speakers, reflected by the two concentric cones, is diffused in all directions around the speaker. When placed near the wall, the acoustic results are a mixture of direct sound from the cone and sound reflected from the wall with a slight delay of 1 ms. This phenomenon enriches the sound produced which resembles the conditions of the concert hall. The bass reflex holes 7, further enrich the sound at low frequencies. |
