METHOD OF MODIFYING CAST IRONS AND STEELS

FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: cast irons and steels are modified in out-of-furnace mode with refractory superdispersed particles plated by a protective metal. According to invention, modifier containing named components is added to cast iron and steel smelts by placing it under jet of molten metal. Before this operation, mixture of refractory dispersed nonmetal particles (50-90%) and protector (the rest) is subjected to treatment (simultaneous grinding, activation, and plating of refractory particles) until powder is obtained with refractory particlesÆ size no greater than 0.1 mcm. Grinding operation can be performed under inert atmosphere. EFFECT: simplified and cheapened modification technology and improved mechanical and operational properties of metal products. 3 cl, 2 tblp
