PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rudder having a high lift cross-sectional contour, which can reduce a resistance loss at its neutral position without deteriorating the high lift characteristic inherent to the rudder. SOLUTION: A body of a rudder 1 has an overall length C of 0.60 to 0.62D in a bow-to-stern direction, where D is a diameter of a propeller, and has a horizontally cross-sectional contour in such a shape resembling to a fish in a side view. The slop angleαof a streamline-like cross-sectional shape front part 1C corresponding to the fish body part, which broads from the boundary with a rear part 1B is set as a side angle of 10 to 20 deg., the tail angleβof the rear part 1B corresponding to the fish tail part, which broads from the boundary 1C with the front part 1A, is set as a side angle of 4 to 6 deg. End surface panels 2, 3 having a width of 0.4C are attached to the top and bottom end faces of the rudder body 1, and the opposite side edge parts of the bottom end surface panel 3 are along bent downward by an angle of 15 deg. The length of the streamline-like shape front end part 1A corresponding the fish body part is set to 0.8C while that of the rear part 1B corresponding to the fish tail part 1B is set to 0.2C.
