PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a masking tape for coating, hardly broken and further hardly scattering coating material fragments when peeling the tape by forming an adhesive layer on a surface of a substrate and further forming a flaking- regulating layer comprising a urethane resin and an epoxy resin on the back face of the substrate. SOLUTION: This masking tape 1 for coating has an adhesive layer 3 (e.g. a styrene-isoprene-styrene copolymer and an aliphatic hydrocarbon) on the surface of a substrate 2 preferably having 50-150μm thickness, and a flaking- regulating layer 4 on the back face of the substrate 2, and the flaking-regulating layer 4 contains at least (A) a urethane resin (e.g. an ether type urethane resin) and (B) an epoxy resin (e.g. a bisphenol A type epoxy resin). The formulating proportion of the components A and B is 100 pts.wt. component A and 4.0-10.0 pts.wt. component B in the flaking-regulating layer 4.
