PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration damping device for a rotor supported by a magnetic bearing mechanism, having a simple structure, high reliability of operation, and high performance. SOLUTION: In a vibration damping device for a rotor supported by a magnetic bearing mechanism, the magnetic bearing mechanism is provided with at least one of radial magnetic bearings 3, 4, and the stator side member 4 of the radial magnetic bearing is fixed and connected to an intermediate member. The intermediate member is connected to a housing side member 11 through a plurality of spherical bodies 14, and respective spherical bodies are arranged in a domed recessed part 12 of the intermediate member and in a domed recessed part 10 of the housing side member. When a rotor 2 is displaced in the radial direction, the intermediate member connected through the rotor side magnet member 3 and the stator side magnet member 4 is also displaced. Since the rotor 2 is supported through, the spherical bodies arranged in the domed recessed parts, restoring force is generated. Either the spherical bodies or the front surfaces of the domed recessed parts are formed of a material to be easily and elastically deformed, and a member provided with a load supporting function is provided with also a vibration damping function.
