<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate even eluted pollutants and flocculate them by discharging gas in the form of foams containing oxygen molecules, oxygen atoms, singlet free oxygen and superoxide prepared by emitting ultraviolet rays of specified wave length to the oxygen molecules into an agitation tank for mixing flocculants with wastewater. SOLUTION: Air in atmosphere is introduced into an emission chamber 15 by operating an air pump AP. Oxygen molecules O2 , oxygen atoms O, singlet free oxygen<1> O2 and superoxide O<-> 2 are contained in the air by emitting ultraviolet rays of wave length in the vicinities of 184 nm and 254 nm from an ultraviolet lamp 16. The above components are introduced as foams into an agitation tank 1 for mixing flocculants with wastewater through an air diffusion pipe 14 with a number of fine holes. The singlet free oxygen<1> O2 contained in the foams is reacted with water to form hydroxy radicals OH. Hydrogen H is taken forcibly from organic matters nearby by the hydroxy radicals OH which are ready to turn into water. At that time, the organic matters are eluted by the dehydration reaction, namely the oxidization.</p> |
