A dye-donor element for thermal dye transfer comprising a support having on one side thereof, in order, a subbing layer and a dye layer, and wherein the subbing layer comprises a glycidyl-containing polymer or copolymer having the following recurring monomer units: wherein: R1 is H or methyl; L is a linking group, such as -COO- or -CONH-; D is an alkylene group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and x represents from about 10 to about 100 weight percent.
