The seat mounting pedestal (46) is inserted in the rail (26) whose sides (28) are sprung apart by the head (40,50,52) of the pedestal. When the pedestal is fully inserted, the rounded ends of the flanges (36) fit snugly into the shoulders on the pedestal head. The seat is then free to slide along the rails on spring loaded wheels which run on the bottom (30) of the rail. To lock the seat and prevent it from sliding, the flanges are clenched inwards by fork ended levers (62), controlled by the crank (82) and the rods (84), forcing cut outs (44) in the flanges to engage corresponding cut outs (56) in the pedestal. To free the seat from the rail, the crank is reversed, so that the tip (74) of the lever (62) spreads the flanges and allows withdrawal of the head of the pedestal.
