The method concerns continuous casting of slabs, according to which a steel melt introduced into a mould space formed by cooled broad-side and narrow-side walls of the mould solidifies into a billet shell whose adhesion to the broad-side walls is prevented by relative motion and lubrication. A motion of the billet shell relative to the mould wall surface consists of a billet extraction component (A) and an oscillation component (O) of the mould broad-side walls.
