The smart card 3 is used for electronic banking transactions and has an embedded microprocessor 31 and memory. The memory is in the form of a ROM device to store the operating system and an EEPROM that stores the transaction and credit amounts together with a security code. The card may be inserted into an additional module 2 that plugs into a mobile telephone and this allows the card contents to be displayed.
