The insert is basically annular. It can be inserted in the jar (21) after manufacture so that spoons etc. (41, 42) can rest on it. It is made to fit the cross-sectional shape of the jar in question, e.g. round or hexagonal. It may be fitted below the neck region of the jar and has an aperture (3) at one point. It may be held against inside of the jar wall by an inherent outward spring force. In the free state, its external measurement is greater than the internal measurement of the largest jar to which it can be fitted.
