PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved device for encoding and decoding surround signals by encoding the five main channels of surround sound signals to two channels, decoding the encoded two channels and effectively reproducing the five main channels. SOLUTION: A left-center adder 15 connects signals on a left input terminal 11 and a center input terminal 12 and supplies left-center signals to a left-center phase shift network 16. A right-center adder 17 connects the signals on the center terminal 12 and a right terminal 13 and supplies right-center signals to a right-center phase shift network 18. A quadrature phase shifter 21 receives the surround signals on a terminal 14 and supplies quadrature phase shift surround signals, they are connected with left-center phase shift signals supplied to a left output adder 22 by a left-center phase shifter 16 and left transmission signals LT are outputted. Further, right-center phase shift signals supplied to a right output adder 23 by a right-center phase shifter 18 and the surround signals are connected and right transmission signals RT are outputted. |
