Device for fitting an assembly of rings on a piston head of a combustion engine

The piston ring fitting machine has a hole (1) to accept the piston (3) to receive the rings. The piston rings are positioned in grooves (2) lining the hole by sliding plates (6) running in lateral guides (5a,5b,5c) stacked one above the other. The rings in each set are inserted transversely to the guides and at different levels by a stepped plate (14,15,16), which is displaced by an actuator (20) so it slides the rings into position in the respective lateral guides. The sliding plates (6) then deliver the rings simultaneously at different levels along the lateral guides. A mechanism (4) then radially expands the rings inside the hole that accepts the piston.
