PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastic optical fiber preform capable of improving the optical transmission characteristics of a plastic optical fiber while drawing is facilitated and a process for producing the same. SOLUTION: This process consists in producing the plastic optical fiber perform 1 including a cylindrical clad layer 2 and a core part 3 disposed in the clad layer 2. In such a case, a core forming material for forming the core part 3 is supplied into the clad layer 2 and thereafter, the core forming material is so polymerized that the ratio of the weight average mol.wt. of the core part 3 to the weight average mol.wt. of the clad layer 2 is 0.7 to 1.5 and that the glass transition temp. of the core part 3 is lower by 5 to 50 deg.C than the glass transition temp. of the clad layer 2.
