PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bleaching activator having a specified, structure, and, especially when being used together with a peroxide-based bleaching agent, not only manifesting extremely improved and excellent bleaching activities but also preventing the material to be treated from becoming brown. SOLUTION: This bleaching activator comprises one or more kinds of phenyl ester derivatives of dicarboxylic acids of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H, a halogen, a 1-10C alkyl, an alkenyl, etc.; X is a 1-20C alkylene, an alkenylene or a phenylene), [e.g. di(4-methoxyphenyl)succinate]. The derivative is preferably used by combining the derivative with hydrogen peroxide or a peroxide-based bleaching agent capable of releasing the hydrogen peroxide. The derivative is obtained, for example, by reacting a dicarboxylic acid dichloride of formula II with a substituted phenol derivative of formula III in the presence of pyridine or a carbonate salt. |
