Cyclododecanol is obtained by reacting cyclododecane at 125-270 DEG C. with molecular oxygen in presence of 0.5-65 weight per cent boron acetate, water being continuously removed from the reaction mixture. The use of oxidation initiators such as manganese acetate, cobalt naphthenate, bromides and ozone is optional. The product may be oxidized in situ to dodecanedioic acid, using e.g. nitric acid.
