Block copolymers having at least three polymer blocks, at least two of which are blocks derived from a vinyl substituted nitrogen-containing compound and at least one of which is derived from a polymerized conjugated diene are rendered solvent-resistant by reaction with a mineral acid, carboxylic acid, sulphonic acid, a salt of an alkaline earth, transition or amphoteric metal, an organic halide and/or an organic acid anhydride until at least 50% of the nitrogen atoms are reacted. The initial block copolymer may or may not be hydrogenated. Block copolymers specified are those derived from butadiene or isoprene and vinyl pyridine, vinyl carbazole, vinyl-quinoline, diethylvinylamine and vinylcyclo-hexylamine. The examples describe reacting block copolymers derived from butadiene and vinyl pyridines with hydrogen chloride gas.
