PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous lubricant excellent in lubrication and water- dispersibility and useful as a cutting oil and a hydraulic medium by using an ester compound containing a specific carboxylic acid and a base, as an essential ingredient. SOLUTION: This aqueous lubricant consists essentially of (A) an ester compound containing a carboxylic acid and obtained by heating and reacting (i) an unsaturated fatty acid containing a hydroxyl group (preferably ricinolic acid) or a dehydration condensation product thereof with (ii) an aromatic polycarboxylic acid having three or more carboxyl groups on an aromatic ring or an anhydride thereof, and (B) a base (e.g. triethanolamine). For example, the component (ii) is trimellitic acid (anhydride) and the component B is triethanolamine. The component A is preferably obtained by carrying out a dehydration reaction of the component (i) with the component (ii) at a temp. of 80-280 deg.C for about 1-30 hr. |
