摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monolithic light emitting and receiving element which can excellently secure both laser oscillation characteristics of a light emission part and light-current conversion efficiency of a light reception part. SOLUTION: In at least two areas on a semiconductor substrate 101, the light emission part 100A and light reception part 100B are formed. The light emission part 100A consists of a vertical resonator type surface light emission laser and the light reception part 100B consists of a PIN type photodiode with resonator structure. The width of the quantum well of an absorption layer 105B is wider than the width of the quantum well of the active layer of the light emission part 100A and the resonator length resonates to the wavelength of projection light of the light emission part 100A.
