A valve comprises a cylindrical plug 15, Fig. 2, having a transverse bore 28, rotatable between floating seats 16, 17 located in coaxial inlet and outlet openings 11, 12. The plug is stepped to form a stem portion which extends through a bonnet portion and is fixed by a screw 39 to member 42 adapted to receive an operating handle. The plug is loaded by a spring 40 against a ball-bearing 35 and the stem is sealed by a packing 31. The packing 31, Fig. 3, comprises a plate 45 having spaced bars 50, 51 connected by a web 52 to form grooves for 0-rings 46 and back-up rings 47, the latter preferably being of " Teflon (Registered Trade Mark). A plastic gasket 48 is located between the plug and housing and the space is filled with a rust inhibiting agent 49, preferably " Rust-Ban 324 " (Registered Trade Mark). The plug, housing and seats are also preferably coated with the rust-inhibiting agent. The floating seats are sealed by 0-rings 26 with back-up rings 25.
