A kitchen burner of the covered flame type capable of offering conditions of durability, versatility and safety. The combustion gas or exhaust gas generated by combustion taking place in a burner body is conveyed to a metallic heat exchanger and then discharged via an exhaust pipe towards the outside of a room. The heat captured is then radiated to a ceramic plate arranged on the heat exchanger, for cooking. A heat diverter provided with an air-direction change damper has been provided with the aim of changing the airflow, thereby enabling the kitchen burner to be applied both to ambient heating and to cooking.
