Process for the production of a pyrogen-free fructan which is readily water-soluble, as well as diagnostic agent containing such a frutan

The prepn. of pyrogen-free, readily water soluble fructan comprises extracting fructan contg. plant parts with water and ultrafiltering the aq. extract on a first membrane which retains higher molecular carbohydrates and proteins but which allows the fructan to pass through and then ultrafiltering the filtrate using a second member which retains fructan but allows salts, monosaccharides and lower oligosaccharides to pass through.
