Treating waste gas containing volatile pollutants

A process for treating waste gases containing volatile polluting compounds involves reacting the compounds with a plasma in thermodynamic non-equilibrium by introduction between high alternating voltage electrodes (7) and passage across plasma curtains generated between each electrode and one or more earthed counter-electrodes (8, 9). Preferably, the compounds pass in surface contact and optionally bulk contact with the plasma curtains. Also claimed is a reactor for carrying out the above process.
