The spectrometer has a rectangular case (19) with a lid (20) and housing a light source (1), e.g. a laser diode, and a holographic grating spectrometer (9). A detector (10) with cooled semiconductor is supplied by an independent power source (13). A control module (12) is provided inside the case lid. The laser source is cooled by a thermoelectrical device while the detector semiconductor is cooled by a Peltier device (11). The power source can be a rechargeable battery or a solar cell panel, The control module processes the information received from the detector and displays the analysis results.
