PURPOSE:To increase the growth rate of an optical fiber preform by providing an annular path for circulating plural burners on a traverse rail. CONSTITUTION:Plural burners 18, 19, 32 and 33 are successively moved at a specified velocity on a common linear path A' (=B') along a core 1a at regular intervals from one end of the core 1a to the other end, and a combustion gas is blown on the core to grow a preform 1 on the core 1a. The burners 18, 19, 32 and 33 are separately driven by driving carriages 10, 11, 23 and 24 with motors 12, 13, 25 and 26. When a burner reaches the other end of the core 1a, the blowing of the combustion gas is stopped, and the burner is returned to the one end through the return paths A and B. |
