A heating cable consists of at least two conducting cores (2, 3) lying parallel to one another and embedded in a primary insulating layer (4) which has a heating wire winding (5) round it. The assembly is covered by an insulating sleeve (6), with at least one insulating film (12, 22) between the two insulating layers. Each film is between 1 micron and few hundredths of a millimetre thick and made from a fluorinated resin such as PTFE or a polyimide.
