<p>A radiation monitor (10) for use with liquids (12) that utilizes air ions (22) created by alpha radiation (21) emitted by liquids (12) as its detectable element. A signal plane (16), held at an electrical potential (19) with respect to ground, collects these air ions (22). A guard plane (14) or guard rings are used to limit leakage currents. In one embodiment, the monitor is used for monitoring liquids retained in a tank (11). Other embodiments monitor liquids flowing through a tank, and bodies of liquids, such as ponds, lakes, rivers and oceans.</p> |
