The generator housing (1) contains a heat-generating chamber (7), adjacent to which is a heat-absorption chamber (14), through which heat-transfer fluid circulates. A rotor (12) on a driving shaft is contained in the chamber, and generates heat in the viscous fluid (17) by shearing action, the fluid being contained in the gaps between the rotor and chamber wall. A sensor (13) measures the temperature of the fluid at the outer edge of the gap. When temperature exceeds a threshold value, a shutdown device prevents heat-generation. The sensor can be in the inner-wall surface of the generating chamber and opposite the outer rotor edge.
