A fixed deflector element (4) possesses a passage (5) for the carrier plates (3) and is positioned on the plane on which the books (1) move. The downward-moving books are supported on the deflector. A delivery blade (6) swivels in relation to the deflector element into a position for depositing the books. An extension arm (11) tilts the books from their vertical position towards the delivery blade. The movement of the delivery arm (11) is synchronised with that of the carrier plates.
