Marker recording method for magnetic tape

The method involves writing and evaluating existing marks or signals in forward operation of a tape. A new mark is recorded in such a way that the signals necessary for a reproduction are not overwritten. Preferably, the control track is formed from a synchronisation track and the signals are formed from the synchronisation signal. A microprocessor evaluates if a synchronising signal exists and a critical transition is detected. The location for the mark to be set is examined in the forward operation and is set in the reverse operation.
