An electromagnetically driven engine has a steam boiler (2) and a magnetron (3) which are both located inside a closed metal housing (1) so that steam is generated by the conversion of electromagnetic energy. There is a piston in a cylinder (4) or a steam turbine joined to the boiler to generate mechanical energy. A dynamo is coupled to the piston/cylinder arrangement and the electrical output is connected to the power supply for the magnetron.
