Chloroform is incorporated into a hard candy base by working it into a plastic candy mass containing 0.5 to 5% by weight of water and 5 to 20% by weight of a non-hygroscopic polyethylene glycol. From 1-10% of a hygroscopic polyhydroxy plasticizer e.g. glycol, propylene glycol, sorbitol or a low (below 3000) M.W. polyethylene glycol may also be present.
