Hinge with damping for use with windows and doors

The hinge has two sections (10,12) linked by a hinge pin (7). One section holds the hinge pin via a rolled section (20), with a centre bore to take the hinge pin. The damping is provided by an elastic insert (58) clipped to one hinge section and pressing onto the outer profile of the other section. No modifications are required to the hinge pin or its mounting. The damping effect is variable over the range of movement of the hinge, with no damping effect in one setting of the hinge. The insert has one friction surface which is pressed onto the outside profile of one hinge section to generate the damping.
