The invention relates to a chain tensioning device for means of traction, specially chains, comprising an element for tensioning means of traction, specially a clamping chuck (1). The clamping chuck (1) is pivotally arranged on a swiveling axis (2) in relation to a base element (3). A spring element (4) arranged between the clamping chuck (1) and the base element (3) elastically loads the clamping chuck (1) onto the means of traction. In order to simplify the assembly of the clamping chuck (1) and the base element (3), one of the elements (1, 3) has at least one mounting hole (6, 11) with a radial mounting opening (7, 12) to radially accommodate the swiveling axis (2) included in the other respective element (1, 3).
