Disinfection of a silo, room or chamber with a suitable heated chemical agent e.g. formalin, carbon dioxide, ethylene or pyrethroid is introduced for a given time. Prior to the introduction of the heated chemical agent, an inflatable balloon made from heat-resistant material is introduced to the room or chamber, and is inflated with hot gas. The balloon has a number of external spacer prods which prevent contact between the balloon membrane and the chamber wall. Following inflation of the hot balloon, a charge of the chemical agent is introduced into the residual gap between the membrane and chamber wall. Also claimed is a balloon assembly.
